TAG HEUER CARRERA SKIPPER CHRONOGRAPH

Watches

The brand brings back the ʼ60s as an ode to their ʻSkippereraʼ—a watch developed to commemorate the Intrepid, an innovative vessel that won the Americaʼs Cup race in 1967. (Fun fact: Actual paint chips from the hull were used to perfectly match the blue in the sub-dials of the original timepiece.) Consider this modern avatar as a rebirth of sorts! It packages elements of the original Heuer Skipper ref. 7754 in a modern 39-millimetre stainless case. The tricolour register is pretty iconic and continues with the addition of a smaller seconds sub-dial. The new watch also places the Carrera marking where youʼd expect it to be—at the 12 oʼclock mark, and the word Skipper has been placed in the sub-dial at 9 oʼclock. A small concession to making the Skipper part of the modern Carrera range, while still clearly presenting itself as vintage-inspired chronograph.

FRANCK MULLER VANGUARD™ NEW TONE SKELETON

Watches

As classic a design as ever, the Vanguard™ series welcomes a slew of fun new entrants. Colourising a skeleton is never easy, but Franck Mullerʼs designers had Isaac Newtonʼs colour theory as inspiration. And since visible light can be split into primary colours, so can the New Tone collection. Available for men and women, the ladiesʼ offerings include a black PVD option with handset diamonds. The movement, with Spectracoat iridescent metal oxide coating, catches light in different ways for a timepiece that truly dazzles. Utterly irresistible!

GRAND SEIKO SBGD213

Building on the brandʼs lion emblem, this jewellery piece is a lesson in maximalism. With a 44.5-millimetre diameter and 14.4-millimetre depth, itʼs more of a sports watch at this point. But then you also have 112 diamonds in the angular lugs, 60 baguette diamonds in the bezel, and a sapphire cap in the crown—and weʼve only just described the platinum case! The outer dial features 48 diamonds and 12 sapphires marking minutes and the same number of stones marking the hours separated by a thin, 18-karat white gold band. Talk about time being precious!

GUCCI 25H

Watches

High-watchmaking meets high fashion in this sophisticated line of timepieces—a watch series that marks the Italian brandʼs 100th anniversary. Featuring styling that recalls stainless steel sport watch royalty (AP Royal Oak, anyone?), the 25H is Gucciʼs flagship return to luxury horology expertise. Modern architectural influences aside, it features the brandʼs first proprietary movement, the GG727.25 caliber, a fact proudly engraved on the dial. Available in a 40-millimetre case with an integrated bracelet, in stainless or pavé set, the collection is for both men and women.

TISSOT T-RACE CYCLING TOUR DE FRANCE 2023

Watches

Netflixʼs Tour de France: Unchained has probably done more for the sport of competitive cycling in earning new fans than any brevet could. Riding on TdF fever, Tissotʼs 2023 special edition is arguably the most overtly velocipede-themed yet. The signature yellow hue of cyclingʼs largest event is represented in the synthetic strap and detailing on the knurled crown. An asphalt-grained dial sits in a 45-millimetre, stainless-steel, carbon composite case, with thoughtfully placed chronograph control guards. The yellow seconds hand marker, with a race bicycle on it, is unmissable. You donʼt really need to be a cycling fan to appreciate a bright, sporty Tissot, though it would help.

JUNGHANS MAX BILL CHRONOSCOPE 27/4008.02

Watches

The ultimate expression of the Bauhaus school of design! And a white-dial chronoscope on a grey case may be the most minimalist Junghans yet. The sleek 40-millimetre case is perfectly sized for both men and women, and goes with the clean, bare bones aesthetic. Domed sapphire crystal stretches over to the edges of the watch, making for near-zero bezels. Detailing of the ʻMʼ and ʻHʼ markers in lieu of the 6 in the sub dials stands testament to the pursuit of minimalism. If thereʼs a single watch that will stand out in any collection, itʼs this.
